TOGUE (LAKE TROUT) BROOK TROUT FISHING IN MAINE
Open water fishing on Chamberlain Lake of Maine begins at ice-out, around May 5th and closes at the end of September. You can fish for togue (lake trout), brook trout(we still get some brookies, 5 lbs. or better), and whitefish.
BEST METHODS
- Springtime - Trolling streamer flies along the shoreline
- Summer - Trolling lures 30' to 50' down
- Ice Fishing - Chamberlain is open from January 1st to the end of March
- Set traps along shore for brookies; out in deep water for lake trout and whitefish.
OPEN WATER FISHING FROM McNALLY'S
The best fishing in Maine begins around the end of May and runs through to the first of July. The best method is fly-casting from canoes or wading Ross Stream. Fly casting at inlets is also a good way to get into bigger trout on Long Lake. There are many streams and rivers in this area, which offer fine brook trout fishing, if you hit it right.
Summer trout fishing requires going deep on Long Lake or Umsaskis Lake. Remember this part of the Allagash Wilderness Waterway allows canoes only. You can, however, use outboards up to 10 HP or electric motors.
Ice fishing in this area is available on First, Second or Third Musquacook Lakes. These lakes are a ten mile snowmobile ride from McNally's Camps; a good chance to combine snowmobiling and fishing.
