Nugent McNally Camps

CANOEING IN MAINE

At Nugent's Camps canoeing is restricted by the wind. This means you paddle the lake early in the morning or after the winds drop off, usually around 5:00 p.m. in the evenings. There are dead waters and small ponds for daytime canoeing and exploring. There are also several beaches around Chamberlain offering fine swimming in a private setting.

McNally's Ross Stream Camps offers at least one dozen-day canoe trips, as well as several overnight trips. These include the Allagash River, the St.John River, the Big Black River, the Little Black River, Dacquam River, Musquacook Stream and last but not least Chemquasabamticook Stream where McNally's Camps are located. If you can handle class II white water, you should be able to handle any of these streams and rivers. Beginners have plenty of good paddling available.

Water levels on the Allagash River are controlled by the park ranger at Churchill Dam. This allows for excellent canoeing most of the year. The rest of the rivers and streams fluctuate with the seasons and the amounts of rainfall.

McNally's is located dead center of the best canoeing in the East! Try it, we feel you will agree with us. Canoeing season runs from May 15th through November. October is a beautiful month for canoeing!
